The ES&S One Story: Making sure jurisdictions are #electionready

Like many jurisdictions and election officials know, election preparation begins far in advance to an actual Election Day. At ES&S, our one story building which houses our warehouse, fulfillment, Field Services and engineering teams, starts getting equipment ready months before an election cycle. This process includes working with our sales team to anticipate needs, ordering equipment, in-house quality control testing, and fulfillment of orders after contracts are finalized with jurisdictions.

Vendors deliver equipment components to the one story so preparations and testing can be completed. Specialists load the correct firmware and check that the equipment is functional and operable. All of this happens under one roof, which we recently expanded to allow more room for our depot repair, engineering and production areas. In 2015 18,589 serialized units left our one story building; our YTD for 2016 is 12,553. We have already hit 68% of last year within the first five months of our fiscal year and that’s not including accessories or ancillary products like voting booths or marking pens.

The one-story follows the ebb and flow of our business; there’s certain months with more activity as jurisdictions are buying equipment for an election and slower times when they’re mainly fulfilling orders for ancillary products and depot repairs. First use of new equipment is generally during a primary or city election so poll workers are suitably trained on the equipment. With the presidential months away, the one story has just a few big ticket orders left as jurisdictions switch from purchase mode to full-on preparation mode.
